Why use Brass over Aluminium?
Brass dampens the vibration that comes through the Capstan motor transport. A huge benefit. Even though brass changes colour if not plated, you can take a piece of sandpaper and make it look new. The change is only superficial. Aluminium corrodes faster, bubbles and becomes a white powder which can't easily be restored. The oxide goes deep into the surface with aluminium, unlike the brass. A reason manufacturers may not use brass is that it's very expensive, 4x to 5x more expensive. The only companies that use brass are Athan and Studer.
