AudioNautes Recordings started with the purpose of offering the very best version of some favourite (sometime almost unknown or forgotten) recordings.
15 Years Anniversary In No Compromise Music
Trade show enthusiasts will probably recognize the name AudioNautes from HIGH END in Munich: Fabio Camorani's company (as well as Camorani's second technology company AudioNemesis, which he runs together with Giuseppe Intorrella) was one of the regular exhibitors at Europe's leading HiFi trade fair for many years. However, AudioNautes has long stood not only for top-class amplifiers, turntables and loudspeakers with insider tip status, but also, with its subsidiary AudioNautes Recordings (ANR), for selected records at the highest level.
In 2010, Camorani founded his company's software division with the aim of "making the best versions of some exquisite, unknown or largely forgotten albums from classical, jazz and pop music" - both on vinyl and on ultra-HQ CD. This profile alone shows: AudioNautes Recordings does not produce for the mass market, but rather plays a niche for enthusiasts and connoisseurs. Artistically high-quality and sonically outstanding recordings of works by the baroque giants Bach and Vivaldi are just as much part of the catalog as specialties from late medieval European choral music. Jazz lovers, on the other hand, can look forward to an HQ CD reissue of the legendary 1976 Stockholm session "Jazz At The Pawnshop", and pop fans will be tempted by vinyl highlights such as the audiophile cult album "Play On Words" by Sara K or "Good Friends," the ninth album by American singer-songwriter Livingstone Taylor, brother of James Taylor. (Fun fact: Both recordings were released in 1993, by the way; retrospectively a banner year for audio productions—think gems like Cassandra Wilson's exceptional debut album "Blue Light 'til Dawn" or Steely Dan's comeback album "Everything Must Go.")
The production of the vinyl releases (of course pulled from the original master tapes) is carried out by first-class pressing plants such as Pallas Group or Optimal, who of course feed their pressing machines with high-quality 180-gram vinyl. When you finally have one of the gatefold LPs in your hands, records from AudioNautes Recordings seem quite conventional at first. But when you open the gatefold sleeve, you can hardly escape the amazement. As is well known, liner notes are part of the basic information of each record. How detailed all those involved in an album production ultimately provide information about the production processes, however, varies greatly. However, AudioNautes Recordings sets standards in the segment of labels specializing in reissues when it comes to discographic details. An example: "Solflöjt," the compilation of works by Vivaldi, Debussy, Christoph Willibald Gluck, among others, recorded by the Swedish flutist Gunilla von Bahr with the Stockholm Chamber Orchestra (catalog number AN-2301). Here, the Italian reissue experts not only meticulously list all the editing and studio monitoring components used for their new release, down to the tonearms and cables used, but also the most important facts about TELDEC's first production in 1977, such as the recording date and location, hardware equipment and the instruments used.
It is details like these that document Fabio Camorani's respect for the artists of an album production, for his licensors who entrust him with their original material for reissue, and for the buyers of AudioNautes records to whom Camorani wants to offer maximum value.
