THE SOUND OF TAPE | PREMIUM AUDIOPHILE VINYL COLLECTION
Art Farmer – In Wrocław
Limited Edition Audiophile Double LP | 180g Vinyl | 45 RPM | DMM Mastering
|
A remarkable live jazz performance from one of the great masters of the flugelhorn - rediscovered, meticulously remastered and presented in a premium audiophile vinyl edition.
Recorded in May 1997 at the Radio Wrocław Studios in Poland, Art Farmer – In Wrocław captures the legendary American jazz musician during one of his final European performing periods. Joined by an outstanding international quintet, Farmer delivers an intimate, expressive and musically compelling performance that combines the sophistication of hard bop with the warmth of lyrical ballads and the energy of the blues.
Originally released on CD in 1998 by the prestigious EmArcy label, this historic recording returned on 26 October 2024, newly remastered for a special double-vinyl audiophile edition.
The original performance was captured live in the studio without cutting or editing, preserving the natural interaction, spontaneity and musical communication between the five musicians. Farmer's distinctive flumpet — an instrument combining characteristics of the trumpet and flugelhorn — takes centre stage, supported by the expressive tenor saxophone of Piotr Baron, the elegant piano playing of Kuba Stankiewicz, the articulate double bass of Harvie S and the dynamic drumming of Adam Czerwiński.
Each musician is given generous space to develop extended solos, creating an authentic jazz listening experience filled with tonal richness, rhythmic precision and musical emotion.
Audiophile mastering and sound quality
The album originates from an analogue multitrack recording made at Radio Wrocław in May 1997. Although recorded on analogue tape, the original production master was prepared on DAT at 16-bit/44.1 kHz resolution.
In May 2024, acclaimed mastering engineer Piotr Łukaszewski undertook a new analogue remastering process at Custom34 Studio in Gdańsk, Poland, using professional Studer A80 and Studer A827 tape machines.
For the vinyl production, the Direct Metal Mastering (DMM) masters were cut by Günter Pauler at Pauler Acoustics, Northeim, Germany.
The decision to release the recording across two heavyweight 180g LPs at 45 RPM allows the music to be presented in a high-quality audiophile format, with the potential for excellent transient reproduction, dynamic expression and musical detail.
The resulting edition is designed for discerning jazz collectors and high-fidelity enthusiasts seeking to experience the atmosphere, instrumental texture and musical authenticity of this outstanding late-career Art Farmer recording.
Important audiophile clarification: This is not an all-analogue AAA production. Although the original session was recorded on analogue multitrack tape, a 16-bit/44.1 kHz DAT master forms part of the documented production history. The remastering and vinyl cutting stages should not be described as an uninterrupted all-analogue signal chain without further confirmation.
Critical acclaim: "This is an excellent album. Musically – a revelation. Sonically – stunning." - High Fidelity — BIG RED BUTTON Award, recognising reference-quality recordings.
