Another initiative to record an album inspired by Polish folklore from the Łęczyca region was born out of my connection to both Oskar Kolberg’s work and the town of Parzęczew. In his 1889 volume Łęczyckie (Vol. 22), Kolberg documented multi-bar melodies originating from Parzęczew - a town near Łęczyca where I spent my childhood. The celebration of Parzęczew’s 600th anniversary of receiving town rights, along with Kolberg’s historical visit there, became the catalyst for this project: a suite based on his musical sketches.
This interpretation of the region’s folk music is not a strict reproduction of the tradition but rather a reimagining inspired by its motifs. I composed additional parts and, together with Dr. Aleksandra Tomaszewska, arranged the music to showcase how it can blend with improvised music performed by outstanding Polish artists who operate in this sonic realm.
