Georg Solti - Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden - Venice

RCA LIVING STEREO - AUDIOPHILE REISSUES BY AUDIONAUTES RECORDINGS, BEGINNING IN 2027

AudioNautes Recordings has announced a new reissue programme celebrating the RCA Living Stereo catalogue: ten selected titles, plus one additional box set, with releases beginning in 2027 and completion planned by the end of 2028.

The series will offer 45 rpm 1-Step vinyl, UHQ-CD and master reel tape editions, with one title also planned for Crystal Disc CD.

Each release will be produced from an official copy of the original master tapes, with AudioNautes’ attention to mastering, manufacturing and presentation.

Although these recordings have appeared in numerous editions over the past three decades, this project represents a fresh undertaking for AudioNautes: bringing its production approach to some of the most admired performances in the catalogue.

FIRST RELEASE: GEORG SOLTI - VENICE

Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden
Original RCA catalogue number: LSC-2313

Some album covers invite you to explore the music behind them. Venice brings together Sir Georg Solti and the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, in a vibrant orchestral programme featuring music by Verdi, Rossini, Offenbach and Ponchielli.

Originally released in 1959, the album emerged from the historic Decca–RCA recording collaboration. Recorded at London’s Kingsway Hall, it has long been admired for its spacious orchestral sound, clarity and dynamic range.

The original recording credits name James Walker as producer and Kenneth Wilkinson as recording engineer—two important figures in the development of outstanding classical recordings.

The musical programme

• Giuseppe Verdi: Preludes to Acts I and III of La traviata
• Gioachino Rossini: Overtures to L’italiana in Algeri and Semiramide
• Jacques Offenbach: Barcarolle from The Tales of Hoffmann
• Amilcare Ponchielli: Dance of the Hours from La Gioconda

Together, these selections offer a colourful tour through opera’s orchestral world, moving from Verdi’s lyrical drama and Rossini’s sparkling energy to Offenbach’s elegance and Ponchielli’s theatrical brilliance.

Solti later served as music director of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, from 1961 to 1971, before leading the Chicago Symphony Orchestra from 1969 to 1991. This recording captures an earlier stage in the career of one of the twentieth century’s most celebrated conductors.

The forthcoming AudioNautes vinyl presentation features 1-STEP branding and the statement “From Original Analog Master Tapes.” For collectors and listeners who value recording history, that analogue provenance is an important part of the album’s appeal.

Sir Georg Solti conducts the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, in music by Verdi, Rossini, Offenbach and Ponchielli. From the introspective preludes of La traviata to the sparkling Dance of the Hours, this programme offers an inviting introduction to opera’s orchestral treasures.

Discover the music. Explore its history. Enjoy the album.
