A Landmark of Modal Jazz

Originally released by Atlantic Records in March 1961, My Favorite Things represents one of the defining moments in John Coltrane’s artistic development.

Coltrane transformed familiar standards into expansive vehicles for improvisation, replacing conventional harmonic movement with hypnotic modal structures, rhythmic intensity and extraordinary emotional depth. The title performance also introduced many listeners to his pioneering work on soprano saxophone and became one of his greatest commercial successes.

The album features Coltrane’s exceptional early quartet with McCoy Tyner, Steve Davis and Elvin Jones. Together, they reinterpret four standards with elegance, urgency and remarkable creative freedom.
