⚡ YELLO RETURN WITH “BREAK OUT” — A NEW CHAPTER BEGINS ⚡
Swiss electronic pioneers YELLO are back with “Break Out,” the second advance single from their forthcoming studio album, TIME LAB, scheduled for release on 30 October 2026.

More than four decades after Boris Blank and Dieter Meier began reshaping electronic music, YELLO still sound unmistakably like nobody else.
“Break Out” is built around a commanding brass hook, muscular electronic beats, rhythmically manipulated voices and Dieter Meier’s unmistakable deep, theatrical delivery. It is playful, eccentric, cinematic and irresistibly danceable - a thoroughly modern production carrying YELLO’s unique musical DNA.
Boris Blank explains that the composition began with the brass figure rather than a conventional song structure. One sound led organically to the next, allowing the track to develop through experimentation and surprise. The result is what Blank describes as essential “Blank architecture”: sounds, rhythms and voices assembled like pieces of an imaginative sonic structure.
Early reactions have been enthusiastic:
⚫ Culture Fix calls “Break Out” a funky electronic dance anthem and a “glistening gem,” highlighting its bouncing synthesisers, gravelly vocals and hypnotic hooks.
⚫ Sonic Seducer focuses on the track’s driving beats, altered voices and prominent brass elements, interpreting it as music about movement, change and the determination to break free.
⚫ Radio Luz describes it as cheeky, playful, rhythmic and exceptionally danceable—a call to stop merely thinking about change and begin doing something creative.
That message feels entirely appropriate for YELLO.
From the groundbreaking “Bostich” and the seductive atmosphere of Stella to “Oh Yeah,” “The Race,” Toy and Point, YELLO have never followed an ordinary route. Boris Blank constructs extraordinarily detailed worlds from rhythms, samples and unexpected sounds, while Dieter Meier inhabits them as narrator, provocateur and surreal master of ceremonies.
“Break Out” does not attempt to recreate the past. Instead, it reminds us why YELLO’s past became so influential: bold sound design, humour, dramatic contrasts, unconventional arrangements and a refusal to obey the predictable rules of pop.
On a revealing high-fidelity system, the production invites close listening. The brass strikes with physical presence, the bass establishes a powerful foundation, the treated voices move through the stereo space, and numerous small details appear between the principal rhythmic elements. It is simultaneously a dance track and a carefully constructed piece of sonic theatre.
The forthcoming TIME LAB will contain 14 tracks and follows the earlier 2026 single “Around the Sun.” Its artwork also marks the return of Zurich graphic designer Ernst Gamper, whose association with YELLO includes the memorable sleeves for You Gotta Say Yes to Another Excess and Stella.
