| If you enjoy all-live playing, analog vintage keyboards, and prog, classical, art or psychedelic rock, check out the Paradoxes album! |
A progressive art rock album, recorded live-in-the-space using vintage analog gear, whose songs, expansive instrumentals, and interludes, take the listener on an emotionally charged journey - exploring the contradictions and magnificence of the human experience.
“Composer and musician Miguel Kertsman lets us hear music rooted in European classical traditions and Brazilian folklore. Overall, this music remains indescribable and defies categorization.” – Rolling Stone
It’s a fascinating disc, it’s a real melting pot of repertoire. Kertsman’s style is very, very varied. He plunges everything into his music, from jazz to world music influences. It’s sometimes atonal, but it’s never inaccessible.” – BBC Music Magazine, Jeremy Pound, Deputy Editor
“…virtuosic eccentricity…Kertsman’s top-tier compositional skills…always seeking new vantage points, but he also has a keen understanding of the classic prog canon” - JMN, PROG Magazine
“Miguel gives you Prog Rock for the new age and his creativity on the album is off the charts. Come one, come all and enter the realm of Paradoxes” - Jimmy Rae, Skope Magazine
DOUBLE LP RECORDS + CD DELUXE EDITION |
Anyone previously unfamiliar with the extraordinarily inventive veteran Brazilian genre-busting, composer and multi-keyboardist Miguel Kertsman will know they’re in for a prodigious, mind and consciousness-expanding experience on his magnum opus Paradoxes the minute they see quotes from Rolling Stone in his promo materials.
“Overall, this music remains indescribable and defies categorisation,” their review reads. Berklee Today once called him “the multi-dimensional composer.” That’s oversimplifying language for a concert stage classical composer and jazz-rock keyboard master who for decades now has created orchestral, chamber, vocal and solo works commissioned, performed or recorded by world-renowned artists such as guitarist John Williams, opera star Angelika Kirchschlager, conductor Dennis Russell-Davies, the Vienna Symphony Chamber Orchestra, the London Philharmonic Orchestra and others.

Music by Classical Music Composer & Jazz-Rock Keyboardist Miguel Kertsman
Miguel Kertsman: Paradoxes (2025)
Brazilian-American artist Miguel Kertsman is out with the album "Paradoxes", and this is an album that resides safely and solidly inside of the progressive rock universe and tradition. In this case with a bit of a retro-oriented but also varied and expressive style is being explored. Major cues come from the big names of the 1970s, and to my ears at least Camel, Genesis and Pink Floyd are possibly the most likely sources of inspiration here, and presumably with a little bit of Yes and arguably a touch of Gentle Giant brought into play here too. But this mostly instrumental production comes with a few additional side steps along the way. Wandering piano movements with more of a defined classical music expression is a recurring feature, and atmospheric laden, synthesiser and keyboard-dominated passages that wouldn't have been out of place on an Isao Tomita album appear at regular intervals too. With a little bit of a flirt with jazz-rock appearing on occasion.
Hence there is plenty of variation at hand here, and everything is explored with a sound and production that adds a vintage-sounding quality to the landscapes explored. An album to seek out if you love 70's progressive rock in general, have a bit of a fancy with the more approachable symphonic varieties of the form in particular, you enjoy bands being creative and expressive with that form and who find that instrumental compositions are generally interesting and intriguing.
Miguel Kertsman’s works have been performed or recorded by world class artists including guitarist John Williams, singer Angelika Kirchschlager, The London Philharmonic Orchestra, The Vienna Symphony Chamber Orchestra, Conductor Dennis Russell Davies, flutist Marina Piccinini to name a few.
