At The Sound of Tape, we offer specialist physical music formats including Master Reel Tapes, LP Records, UHQ-LP Records, UHQCD, Crystal Disc CDs, Audio CDs, Audio Cassette Tapes and other limited, audiophile editions or custom-made products.
Because many of these releases are produced in limited quantities, manufactured to order, imported directly from specialist labels, or released according to publisher production schedules, each product is clearly marked with an Availability Status.
Please check the individual product description before placing your order.
## IN STOCK
The item is physically **in stock and available for dispatch**.
In-stock orders are normally prepared and dispatched within **48 hours**, excluding weekends and UK public holidays.
During exceptionally busy periods, major releases or promotional events, dispatch may take slightly longer.
## PRE-ORDER
The item is available to purchase **before its official release or publication date**.
Where the label, publisher or manufacturer has provided a projected release date, we will normally display it within the product description.
Please note that release dates are estimates supplied by the label, publisher, distributor or manufacturer and **may be changed without notice**.
If no confirmed release date is available, the product may be marked:
**Release Date: TBC - To Be Confirmed**
Some specialist products, particularly **Master Reel Tapes, limited audiophile editions and independently manufactured releases**, may take anywhere from several weeks to approximately three months or longer following their initial announcement.
Your order reserves the product for you, subject to availability and production by the supplier.
## BACK-ORDER
The item is part of our normal catalogue but is **temporarily out of stock**.
A Back-Order means we expect to obtain additional stock from the label, publisher, manufacturer or distributor.
Where possible, an estimated replenishment or shipping date will be shown within the product description.
As a general guide, please allow approximately **14 days**, unless a different estimated timeframe is stated on the product page.
Back-order dates are estimates and are not guaranteed.
## AWAITING REPRESS
The item is currently unavailable because the existing pressing or production run has sold out and the **label or publisher is preparing a new pressing or reissue**.
The item remains part of the catalogue, but a confirmed production or delivery date may not yet be available.
Where no estimated date has been provided, the product will be shown as:
**Awaiting Repress — ETA TBC**
Repress schedules are controlled by the label, pressing plant or manufacturer and can therefore change.
## EXPECTED ON
The item is currently out of stock but **new stock is expected to arrive on or around the date shown** in the product description.
For example:
Expected In Stock: 25 January 2027
The displayed date is an estimate based on information supplied by the label, distributor, publisher or manufacturer.
It should not be regarded as a guaranteed delivery or dispatch date.
If the incoming shipment is delayed, the expected date may be updated.
## SPECIAL ORDER
The item is not normally held in our immediate warehouse stock**, but it can be specially ordered from the relevant label, publisher, distributor or manufacturer.
Typical Special Order processing times will be shown within the individual product description wherever possible.
Specialist and imported products may require additional production, handling, customs or international transportation time.
Please check the product page carefully before ordering.
Once the item has been ordered specifically for you from the supplier, cancellation rights may be subject to our applicable Cancellation, Returns and Special Order Terms & Conditions.
## ON-DEMAND
An On-Demand product is manufactured, duplicated, assembled or prepared specifically after your order has been placed.
These products are commonly associated with specialist physical formats such as:
Master Reel Tapes · Limited Editions · Bespoke Audiophile Releases · Specialist Pressings**
The product may therefore not exist as finished warehouse stock at the time you place your order.
Production begins after the order has been accepted by the manufacturer, label or publisher.
Estimated production and dispatch times are shown within the individual product description wherever available.
Because On-Demand products depend on manufacturing schedules, quality-control procedures and supplier availability, completion dates are estimates rather than guaranteed dates.
## IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT ESTIMATED DATES
For Pre-Order, Back-Order, Awaiting Repress, Expected On, Special Order and On-Demand** products, all release, production, arrival and dispatch dates should be regarded as estimates unless expressly stated otherwise.
Release schedules may change because of circumstances outside The Sound of Tape's control, including:
manufacturing schedules, pressing-plant capacity, mastering or production delays, packaging production, artist or label decisions, international transportation, customs clearance and distributor delays.
Where we receive significant new information about an order or release date, we will update the relevant product information whenever reasonably possible.
## ORDERING MORE THAN ONE ITEM
If your order contains products with different availability statuses, the complete order may be dispatched once all items are availiable unless alternative shipping arrangements have been agreed.
