This recording of the World Orchestra of Jeunesse Musicales was produced during the latter's stay in Canada on the occasion of the 21st Olympiad held in Montreal in the summer of 1976. The Orchestra took part in the official opening of the games.

An initiative of Gilles Lefebvre, president and founder of the Jeunesses Musicales du Canada, the World Orchestra was born in 1969 thanks to the financial support of the cultural branch of the Ministry of External Affairs of Canada. The project entailed the formation each year for a duration of one month of an orchestra of about one hundred players carefully selected among the member countries of the International Federation of Jeunesse Musicales. The maximum age of the performers was set at 23. The original concept also involved placing the orchestra under the leadership of outstanding conductors.

The first orchestra was assembled at the Orford Arts Centre in the summer of 1970 and was entrusted to the internationally acclaimed Erich Leinsdorf. Thereafter the adventure was renewed each summer, with the Orchestra giving concerts in France, Italy, Austria, Germany, the United States, and Great Britain. Israel and Belgium, and led by such distinguished conductors as Karel Ancerl, Jean Martinon, Leonard Bernstein, Witold Rowicki and Zubin Mehta. In 1976 the World Orchestra of Jeunesses Musicales returned to the Orford Arts Centre. the conductor on this occasion was Pierre Hétu.

This recording of the World Orchestra of Jeunesse Musicales was produced during the latter’s stay in Canada on the occasion of the 21st Olympiad held in Montreal in the summer of 1976. The Orchestra took part in the official opening of the games. Classical Music On Tape: Mussorgsky’s stunning suite was written in honour of a painter friend and was inspired by a visit to an art exhibition. Each of the movements represents one of the drawings or artworks on display.

The depth and timbre in the sound of this recording of the Ravel orchestration were fully captured by the use of only two omnidirectional mics on 1/4" analogue tape at 15 ips.

Producer: Andre Clerk, Jean de La Durantaye and Recording Engineer: Jean de La durantaye. For the mastering of this recording on reel-to-reel tape, the original 1/2”, 30ips NAB master tape was played on a modified TELEFUNKEN M15 Tape recorder with SAKI head, using a hi-end tube preamplifier with OCC silver cables.

RTM Tapes SM900 15 IPS CCIR Or NAB Eq: The 2xHD album tape recording was carefully selected for the quality of its recording and interpretation and the high resolution mastering was done using the proprietary 2xHD FUSION system. A recording remastered by 2xHD provides a unique listening experience as the process digs deep within original recordings to get all hidden information, without altering the music in any way. The process uncovers and brings forth nuances, warmth, depth of field and even the air around the musicians. The mastering chain consists of a selection of high-end vacuum tube equipment. For the recordings on this album, the original 1/4” 15 ips CCIR master tapes were played on a Nagra-T tape recorder, modified with high-end tube playback electronics, and wired with OCC silver cable from the playback head directly to a Nick Doshi tube head preamplifier. The Nagra T, with its four direct drive motors, two pinch rollers and a tape tension head, has one of the best transports ever made. A custom-built carbon fibre head block and a head damping electronic system permit 2xHD FUSION to obtain a better resolution and 3D imaging.
