Nancy Wilson Meets The Cannonball Adderley Quintet (officially titled Nancy Wilson/Cannonball Adderley) is a landmark 1962 vocal jazz and hard-bop collaborative studio album released by Capitol Records. Recorded over a series of sessions in New York City during June and August 1961, this album famously paired a rising 24-year-old "song stylist" with one of the tightest, most energetic working instrumental groups of the era.

The album benefits from an extraordinary group of jazz legends:

Nancy Wilson – Lead vocals
Julian "Cannonball" Adderley – Alto saxophone
Nat Adderley – Cornet
Joe Zawinul – Piano (marking some of his earliest recordings with the quintet before he later co-founded Weather Report)
Sam Jones – Double bass
Louis Hayes – Drums

Album Highlights:

Rather than making it purely a vocal showcase, the album perfectly balances both identities by alternating between vocal tracks and purely instrumental pieces where the quintet gets to stretch out. Out of the original 12 tracks, 5 are instrumentals.

"Save Your Love for Me": Widely considered a masterpiece of vocal jazz, featuring a subtle nod to Miles Davis's "So What" in the opening bars.
"A Sleepin' Bee": Showcases Wilson’s flawless, horn-like phrasing alongside Cannonball's blues-drenched alto responses.
"The Old Country": A hauntingly beautiful track featuring brilliant accompaniment from Nat Adderley.
"Unit 7": A hard-bop instrumental composed by bassist Sam Jones that became a signature standard for the group.

Unlike conventional CDs, UHQCDs are not pressed from polycarbonate, but cast from a photopolymer and cured with UV light. Another layer of high-purity polycarbonate is applied to the softer photopolymer for scratch protection. The combination results in significantly reduced reflection of laser light inside the CD and an unmatched precise edge transition between pits and lands of the CD. UHQCDs are 100% compatible with standard CD players. Musically, the result is a sound image strongly reminiscent of analogue master tapes.
