John Coltrane's My Favorite Things (1961) is available as a high-fidelity UHQCD (Ultimate High-Quality Compact Disc) x MQA-CD, often featuring the newly discovered Mono master tape. This Japanese-produced edition features high-resolution audio, playable on standard CD players, but optimised for MQA hardware. It includes the iconic quartet: Coltrane, McCoy Tyner, Steve Davis, and Elvin Jones. 

Coltrane considered this album his favorite among all the ones he recorded. He regarded it as such a perfectly realized work that he felt no need to alter anything, unlike many of his other records, where he would have liked to refine small details. The album represents a pivotal transition from bebop to modal jazz, highlighted by his pioneering use of the soprano saxophone.

The classic quartet, featuring McCoy Tyner on piano, Elvin Jones on drums, and Steve Davis on double bass, reinterprets standards such as “Summertime” and “Ev’ry Time We Say Goodbye” with an improvisational, hypnotic, and vibrant approach, frequently described as a rhythmic-harmonic “pedal.” We invested considerable effort in creating a remaster that remains fully faithful to the original source while bringing fresh clarity and fully revealing the deep emotional power this masterpiece continues to convey with every listening.

The Ultimate High Quality CD (UHQ-CD)

The Ultimate High Quality CD was developed through an effort to improve audio quality by simply upgrading the materials used in ordinary CDs to higher quality materials. For the substrate, a high-transparency and high-fluidity polycarbonate (a type of plastic) of the type used for LCD panels was used, while for the reflective layer, low-cost, common aluminium was replaced with a unique and expensive alloy of high-reflectivity. The Ultimate High Quality CD reproduces audio with greater precision and at a level that is impossible to achieve using conventional CD production technology.

All About Ultimate High-Quality CD (UHQ-CD):

UHQCD stands for Ultimate High-Quality Compact Disc and is a joint development of the Japanese CD replication company Memory-Tech and the Audio Quality CD Company from Hong Kong. Unlike conventional CDs, UHQCDs are not pressed from polycarbonate, but cast from a photopolymer and cured with UV light. Another layer of high-purity polycarbonate is applied to the softer photopolymer for scratch protection. The combination results in significantly reduced reflection of laser light inside the CD and an unmatched precise edge transition between pits and lands of the CD. UHQCDs are 100% compatible with standard CD players. Musically, the result is a sound image strongly reminiscent of analogue master tapes.

The Ultimate High-Quality CD (UHQCD) From The Original Master Tape. All UHQ-CD album titles come from analogue master reel tapes, not from a digital master. All of them from a copy of the original master tapes. All of them, analogue mastered, full and pure analogue pathway, then converted in a digital 16-44 format.
