Gregorio Paniagua & Madrid Atrium Musicae - Three Centuries of la Spagna
Spanish dances from the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries, recorded on period instruments by a septet led by Gregorio Paniagua, and released on a Swedish classical label are typically not the stuff of audiophile dreams. In this case, however, everything is different. In 1980, the Swedish label BIS landed a hit in the world of early music with this release - and a group of astonished audiophile record listeners also got their hands on entirely new musical pleasures with instruments such as a spinet, a bass krummhorn or a metallophone and, of course, the Spanish guitar.
The legendary recording is now newly available as an Ultimate HQ disc from Audionautes in Italy. It has been recompiled not from the original master, but from the previous session tapes; as it were, from the tapes that were later compiled into one master.

All About Ultimate High-Quality CD (UHQCD):
UHQCD stands for Ultimate High-Quality Compact Disc and is a joint development of the Japanese CD replication company Memory-Tech and the Audio Quality CD Company from Hong Kong. Unlike conventional CDs, UHQCDs are not pressed from polycarbonate, but cast from a photopolymer and cured with UV light. Another layer of high-purity polycarbonate is applied to the softer photopolymer for scratch protection. The combination results in significantly reduced reflection of laser light inside the CD and an unmatched precise edge transition between pits and lands of the CD. UHQCDs are 100% compatible with standard CD players. Musically, the result is a sound image strongly reminiscent of analogue master tapes.
